Often I am asked, “What  is the one thing that I can do today to start losing weight?” My first response is the obvious      answer, “Workout!” But my second response might surprise you, “Drink water!” There many added benefits to drinking  water and weight loss. P90X And P90X2 “Indoor Training For The Outside World!”

Recently, I’ve been asked, “Does P90X ever get too old?” And my answer is simply, “No!” If there is one thing I’ve learned from P90X and it’s creator Tony Horton is that you will thrive where your passion is when it comes to health and fitness. Let’s face it, the reality is that at some point in time your probably not going to be doing P90X ten years from now although that wouldn’t be a bad thing :) But hopefully after becoming a graduate from the program you will have learned a thing or two about health and nutrition. Tony himself is a skier and one of the main reason’s why he trains the way he does so when ski season comes around he can go all out and enjoy the slopes and outdoors. Unlike Tony, my passion is not skiing but rather I’m a runner. Nothing get’s me pumped or primed than going out and hitting the pavement and hills preparing for my next marathon. Because of the training that I have received from the P90X and now P90X2 I am a stronger, faster and more flexible runner. I can honestly say that I’m in the best shape of my life. Tony says, “P90X2 is indoor training for the outside world!” I can attest that is so true when it comes to the sport I love. If you are looking to get in the best shape of your life and want to take the sport that’s your passion to the next level then I invite you to give one of these programs a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Also, if you have fallen off your commitment to get in shape this New Year it’s not too late to recommit. Here are some great tips from Tony that have inspired me over the past few years. I hope they inspire you too.

Cut The Shortcuts!

There are no short cuts to success. This is proven in the business world and can also be related when it comes to achieving a fitness goal. As someone who has completed a program like P90X, I get asked all the time, “What did you do to get those results?” I simply tell them, “I followed the plan.”

It sometimes baffles my mind by the number of people who come to me for advice and tips on how to cut the corners to achieve weight loss. Not to mention the many so-called friends that want the program for free or go to other sites I won’t mention by name to get an underground copy of P90X, Insanity, or whatever their forte may be! Truth of the matter is, if you are not willing to invest in what I think honestly is a small amount of money for the amount of training and free coaching that comes along with joining a group like Team Beachbody, then in my humble opinion you’re probably not willing to get after it and shed the pounds. Am I being too harsh?

Beachbody has a catchy slogan, but when you think about it there is so much truth behind it. It simply states, “Decide, Commit, Succeed!” When someone comes to grips over the power that lies hidden in those three words then the sky is the limit to crushing his or her weight loss goal.

As coach I can’t sweat for you, but I promise to sweat alongside of you as long as you are willing to put in the work and effort. I’ve been doing it for over three years. If I can do it then so can you.

Enjoy The NFL Playoffs & Still Eat Healthy!

  This weekend there will be a number of fans getting together rooting for their favorite  teams to move on to the final round of the playoffs before the big game in a few weeks. Don’t let hot wings & beer get you off track of reaching your New Year’s fitness goal instead go for a more healthy approach. By preparing the night before you can load up on healthy options that keeps your body fueled for optimal performance while ( Bringing it again P90X2 my preference) or whatever program your on. Don’t Waste Your Workout! Nutrition Is Necessary!

What many people don’t realize after a workout is there is a one hour window to refuel your body and give it the right nutrients for muscle recovery. Thus, for many who haven’t been educated in this arena hit an early wall with their workouts and give up. Think about it this way in terms of purchasing a new car. Without monthly maintenance and weekly up keep that new engine after a few thousand miles will begin to wear out more quickly. After a couple of years of neglect your car will have aged more rapidly while all along it should have been firing on all cylinders at optimal peak performance.

I always tell people I coach that nutrition is more than half the battle if they want to see a  maximized transformation. Let’s face it, as we get older metabolisms slow down and our bodies breaks down more rapidly. As adults we must be mature and not naive to the fact that if we want to live a full life of meaning and purpose then we must give our bodies the fuel it needs to function properly.

I’m talking about nutrition! One of the best nutrition supplements on the market I believe is Shakeology. It gives your body the full essentials to go full throttle! I have been using Shakeology for about 10 months and it has definitely enhanced my workouts. After my workouts I use the P90X recovery formula. Researchers say that our bodies need a 4:1 ratio of good carbs and protein along with other vital nutrients within an hour after daily exercise, otherwise you are just wasting your workout.

My Top 5 List For Accomplishing My 2012 Fitness Goal!

The New Year is upon us and like many of you I’ve been preparing my mind and body for my new fitness    challenge of 2012. This New Year I will be attempting a 90 day challenge of eating totally clean and healthy with no cheat meals. I will also be starting P90X2. This by far will be my hardest challenge yet. Since 2010 I have run several half marathons, two marathons, and have completed 3 rounds of P90X. During the past three years I have always given my self at least one cheat meal towards the end of my weekly workout. On an occasion I would have a cheat day every once in a while but never have eaten 90 days of totally clean. This week I have been looking at recipes of great healthy food and preparing for this new goal. What are you doing this week to prepare for your fitness challenge of 2012? I hope you are preparing your heart and mind right now rather than later. Don’t be like most people who blow their New Year’s resolution within the first 48 hours but rather take action steps now.

Here are my five things that I’m doing now to make my New Year’s Resolution goal become a reality. I know you can do it. Enjoy!

1. Get my mind right now. Focus!

2. Researching material to make it happen. ( In my case healthy foods/recipes )

3. Drinking a lot of water and detoxing from caffeine.

4. Surrounding myself with positive people with like-minded goals. Accountability baby!

5. Putting up a calendar that I can see every day with  my start date and end date for a visual.

Don’t Let The Holidays Hold Your Fitness Hostage!

The Christmas holidays are upon us. During the next few days some of us will be on the road heading to our families’ homes as we gather for another festive Christmas celebration. Often when we gather, one of the common interests we all share is EATING! And if you are like me and trying to stay fit, that can often present a challenge when thrust into different environments that we are not used to being in. This can likely present a challenge when presented with pecan pie, strawberry cheesecake, chocolate mouse pie. Mouth watering yet? When I began my fitness journey three years ago the saying, “You are too skinny! Is something wrong with you? Are you sick?” often came up.

At first I chuckled as my family began to wonder what was going on in my life. After pondering these statements, I began to think about how much our culture shapes our way of thinking and how we are supposed to look when it comes to the way we eat. Little did I know three years ago that learning to cook healthy can be rewarding and actually taste great.

If you are like me and striving to stay in the best shape of your life, then don’t let the holiday frenzy leave you unbuckling the belt or changing into the sweats from over indulging. Instead, cook a healthy option that tastes great, and share it with your family. So the next time the statement comes up, “You are too skinny!” you can share your secret to success that tastes great and can be life changing.
