You Can’t Have It Both Ways!

  My friends have heard me say this a thousand times but I’m going to say it again, “There are no short cuts to real success when it comes to health and fitness.” Yes, you can get quick results with pills, and potions that aren’t probably the healthiest of choices but just as soon as you quit taking them the weight piles back on. On the other hand, there is nothing that can take the place of good ole fashion working out and eating healthy. Yes, the weight comes off slower but it also is a lot harder to put back on. Why? Because when you choose a program like P90X you learn the in’s and out’s of the science behind muscle confusion. You learn the importance of nutrition and how to fuel the body after an intense workout such as chest and back! Which, by the way is one of my personal favorites.It’s hard to believe that I have been doing P90X since April of 2011. That makes me a P90X grad not 1, not 2, but 3 times and now P90X2. I will finish my first round of P90X2 on April 1st, 2012. I think that’s kind of cool.

On March 24th I became P90X qualified and on April 21st, & 22nd I will become a certified P90X instructor. This means I will have the knowledge, coupled with experience to help you achieve the best results possible using P90X.  But I want to warn you that you can’t have it both ways. You have to make up your mind to put down the whopper and pick up the weights. Should you decide to take the P90X challenge then you will have to clean out the pantry and discover the “Why?” in your life. Why do I want to get fit in the first place? Is it because summer will be here soon? Or is it to get fit before it’s too late with high blood pressure, diabetes and all the other preventive diseases? Diseases that can be avoided with proper nutrition and exercise.

Ice Cream And Biggest Loser Don’t Mix Well

It was three years ago when, like many of you who probably watch the reality show “The Biggest Loser,” that I was propped up on my pillow in the bedroom pounding away the rocky road ice cream as I heard Bob say, “Get up! Don’t quit! This is your Last chance workout,” to the contestants trying to avoid dropping below the yellow line. As I sat there licking the last bite of chocolate off the spoon along with drinking the the remainder of its delicious goo from the bottom of the bowl, I knew I needed a change. Tipping the scale at 220 pounds, I was on the verge of becoming a pre-diabetic and had high blood pressure at the age of 32.

As I continued my unhealthy lifestyle, in the summer of 2009 I began to have heart palpitations at night when I would try to sleep. It was at this juncture that I realized something had to give, and a change in my nutrition and health had become a priority. Those sleepless nights began to scare me as I would wake up in a deep sweat with my hands over my chest. I began to think about what kind of example I was setting for my children. My wife feared me dying of a young age and leaving her with three children to raise. I’ll never forget her words, “You better not leave me here with three children to raise alone!”

Three years have passed since I heard those words from my wife, and today I am healthier, happier, and more determined than ever before to pay it forward to people who want to get in the best shape of their lives. Like many people on “The Biggest Loser,” finding their “why” behind the weight gain is usually the tipping point to getting back on track or for the first time ever getting on track. It’s difficult at first, but when you find your “‘why” in life, then finding the “what” will become clearer to getting the results to reaching your fitness goals. When I found my “why” in the summer of 2009, I knew ‘what” I needed to do. I had to start moving. I got up and headed to the gym – even if it was only for 20 minutes, I exercised. Then I cleaned out the kitchen. You have probably heard the old saying, “Garbage in, garbage out!” My wife and I cleaned out all the junk food and for the first time in our marriage, we started on our journey to healthy eating. I soon traded my Blue Bell rocky road ice cream to chocolate Shakeology. I began to workout hard using P90X and joined the world of TeamBeachBody. P90X And P90X2 “Indoor Training For The Outside World!”

Recently, I’ve been asked, “Does P90X ever get too old?” And my answer is simply, “No!” If there is one thing I’ve learned from P90X and it’s creator Tony Horton is that you will thrive where your passion is when it comes to health and fitness. Let’s face it, the reality is that at some point in time your probably not going to be doing P90X ten years from now although that wouldn’t be a bad thing :) But hopefully after becoming a graduate from the program you will have learned a thing or two about health and nutrition. Tony himself is a skier and one of the main reason’s why he trains the way he does so when ski season comes around he can go all out and enjoy the slopes and outdoors. Unlike Tony, my passion is not skiing but rather I’m a runner. Nothing get’s me pumped or primed than going out and hitting the pavement and hills preparing for my next marathon. Because of the training that I have received from the P90X and now P90X2 I am a stronger, faster and more flexible runner. I can honestly say that I’m in the best shape of my life. Tony says, “P90X2 is indoor training for the outside world!” I can attest that is so true when it comes to the sport I love. If you are looking to get in the best shape of your life and want to take the sport that’s your passion to the next level then I invite you to give one of these programs a try. You won’t be disappointed.
