I Can’t Afford To Eat Right!

I can’t afford to eat right! I hear this response all the time from people who tell me nutritional supplements and whole foods are too expensive. My response; “You cannot afford not to!” The obesity trend in America is freighting. According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention about one-third of U.S. adults (33.8%) are obese. Approximately 17% (or 12 .5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese. These statistics are alarming and should wake us all up to the realization that we can do something about obesity! And it starts with eating right.

I can recall when I was overweight I used to eat out at least a minimum three to four times a week with my family. We would go to places like Burger King, McDonald’s, Taco Bell. Oh! Let’s not for get the Starbucks grande mocha extra whip. I spent the money on – please excuse me – ‘crap!” that would tear right through my stomach. I gained some serious weight! I’m talking about sixty pounds or better. And as a bonus I wasn’t working out. At the end of the week I was broke, bloated, busted, and disgusted! It was time for a change. As I began my fitness journey I began to make some serious changes in the way we budgeted for groceries. I knew that in order to change my health I had to learn how to handle my wealth. So my wife and I quickly began to revamp and reorganize the way we spent our money on food. And we soon realized that we could afford to eat right!

What we started three years ago still works for us today. Every Sunday we make a list of what we are going to prepare for breakfast, lunch and supper for the upcoming week. Included in our list is our midday snacks and supplements that we use as well.  Most of the time we are able to stick to the list and only have to make a midweek trip for milk or eggs. Over the past three years it has taken us some time to develop some meal plans since we used to eat out all the time. You might find this challenging at first, but you can do it.  One of the best investments we made during our transition from fast-food to healthy food was finding a book called Eating Right For Life! All I can say is buy this book.  It will help you get fit and stay on budget! Team Beachbody is another avenue you can take to get free support, free coaching, and eating tips to help you succeed. As a Beachbody coach I’d love to help you. “I can’t afford to eat right!” Really? My challenge to you this week is a simple one. The next time you receive your bank statement from your bank add all of your receipts from where you got fast-food or ate out. You might be surprised on how much you spent. Heck! You might be surprised how much you can save eating healthy. It’s your decision. Whopper? Or Waistline? You can afford to eat right!
